Environmental
Comfort
The
performance measurement of building environmental comfort continues
to evolve. The commonly used criteria of temperature and humidity
limits comfort evaluation and fails to recognize the effects of
air movement, cold or hot radiant surfaces and the seasonal variances
in occupants’ clothing. This limitation is recognized
by both commercial developers and major employers and the use of
computer-generated thermal modelling and simulations is now requested
as part of the design process through forums such as the British
Council for Offices.
The
Practice has for some time utilized thermal modelling as a key design
tool in the overall design process.

Building
Surveying
Health
and Safety issues, maintenance and cost in use evaluations all weigh
heavily on those responsible for operating facilities, either as
agents on behalf of corporate owners or as managers operating within
large corporate structures.
The
requirements for effective financial management and the adoption
and compliance with legislation increases all the time. The
introduction of a carbon tax as part of a long-term goal for reducing
our energy consumption and management of waste products, noting
the targets set at Kyoto, is a current example.
Surveying
existing operations and premises forms part of satisfying the needs.
By assessing current conditions, schedules of actions can be produced
to achieve compliant and improved facilities.
The
Practice undertakes all necessary surveys and notes below key activities:
· Fixed
electrical installation testing
·
Portable
appliance testing
·
Electromagnetic
field testing
·
Lift
traffic analysis
·
Condition
surveys
·
Environmental
assessments
· Disability access surveys
